DSD & reconsidering gender

Some people with DSD variations and also some people without them will think about their gender and question the way they feel on the inside. They might decide that the gender they’ve been raised in fits to their feelings about themselves, or that another gender fits them better. They might also decide that their gender is somewhere between male and female, in the case of  ‘gender neutral’ ‘agender’ ‘non-binary’ or ‘queer.’ If you are thinking about this, know that you are not alone.

We suggest talking with someone you trust, like a good friend, psychologist, social worker, support service or perhaps a parent. Find people to help you explore this, get to know you, and help you find out more about what you really want.

Finding someone you can talk to about this takes time, and you may not find the right person immediately. Reach out to a couple people, get their advice, and get all the information you need to do what fits you.

Reconsidering gender & hormone replacement therapy (HRT)

If you are thinking about gender and are feeling conflicted, it could make a difference to the type of hormones or medical choices you make. This is something that doctors, psychologists, or social workers can help you with. Click on the link for more information on hormones.
